The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.1 quake in the United States near Concord, Contra Costa County, California, only 8 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022, at 5:07 am local time at a shallow depth of 12 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.1. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Bay Point (pop. 21,500) located 4 miles from the epicenter, New York of the Pacific (pop. 69,400) 6 miles away, Concord (pop. 128,700) 8 miles away, Martinez (pop. 38,100) 9 miles away, Antioch (pop. 110,500) 11 miles away, Fairfield (pop. 113,000) 12 miles away, Walnut Creek (pop. 68,900) 13 miles away, and Vallejo (pop. 121,300) 15 miles away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include San Francisco (pop. 864,800) located 32 miles from the epicenter, and Sacramento (pop. 490,700) 44 miles away. #earthquake #globaltv #earthquake_today #latest #earthquake_news #ca #california #usa
