Former major league player Jeremy Giambi was found dead in Southern California on Wednesday at the age of 47, according to the Claremont (California) Police Department. A spokesperson for the department said officers responded to a call at Giambi"s family home approximately 11:40 a.m. and found him deceased. No signs of foul play were found, according to Lt. Robert Ewing. Autopsy results are pending, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County coroner"s office. Giambi played six seasons from 1998-2003 with the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox. He played with his older brother Jason, a five-time All-Star, during his time in Oakland. Giambi twice reached the postseason with the Athletics and in 2001 was famously tagged out at home on Derek Jeter"s flip in Game 3 of the American League Division Series against the Yankees. Giambi was a key contributor for Oakland that season, posting an. 877 OPS in the second half and hit .341 with two outs and runners in scoring position. Giambi was implicated with his older brother in the BALCO performance-enhancing drug scandal and testified before a grand jury investigating the Bay Area lab that distributed PEDs to elite athletes. In testimony obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, Jeremy Giambi admitted injecting substances received from Greg Anderson, Barry Bonds" personal trainers and one of the key targets of the probe.
