COVID-19: New York state to end most mask mandates, proof of vaccination requirements

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday she would end the state"s mask mandate for most indoor public places except schools, health care and correctional facilities. Her state would stop requiring people to wear a mask or prove they had received a COVID-19 vaccine when entering most indoor public places, starting on Thursday, due to a decrease in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. But some New Yorkers think it is still too early to lift the mandate. We"re not out of the woods yet, says New Yorker Parker Krug. Meanwhile, New Jersey resident Robin Green thinks, It is okay to lift the mandate. People are vaccinated and there"s, you know, immunity somewhat at this point.\n In New York City, the nation"s most populous city, a requirement that people show proof of vaccination to enter restaurants, gyms, theaters and other indoor places will remain in effect for the time being, said the office of Mayor Eric Adams. New York state officials will decide whether to keep the state"s school mask mandate in place during the first week of March, after students return from midwinter break. That decision will take into consideration case numbers, positivity rates and other factors, said Hochul.
