Tim Rosaforte dies from Alzheimer's Disease at age 66


Veteran journalist Tim Rosaforte, one of the first insiders on television, passed away Tuesday in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, after a brief battle with Alzheimer"s disease. He was 66 years old. Rosaforte retired in late 2019 after a fancy career that included stops at Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, and Golf Channel. He officially joined the Golf Channel in 2007, but first appeared on the network in the mid-1990s, when the company was in its infancy. Over the years, it has evolved into golf"s high-profile insider role by providing notes and behind-the-scenes information on the sport and its biggest names. One of the game"s most respected voices and well-connected reporters, Rosaforte has appeared in more than 125 majors and 17 Ryder Cups; The 2020 edition was the first Masters he had missed since 1983. During her outstanding career, Rosaforte has received both the PGA of America"s Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism and the Memorial Tournament"s golf journalism award. The PGA also awarded him a lifetime membership, making him the first journalist to receive this honor. He was further honored last year by naming the media center of Honda Classic, an event he"s covered for three decades near his home in South Florida, named after him. The tournament also announced the Tim Rosaforte Distinguished Writers Award, which will be awarded annually. Rosaforte was the first recipient. Born October 25, 1955, in Mount Kisco, New York, Rosaforte began her career at the Tampa Times in 1977, continuing her career at Rosaforte, Sun-Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, Sports Illustrated, and Golf Digest/Golf World. In total, he has won more than 40 writing awards, including first place in all four non-daily categories of the Golf Writers Guild of America writing competition. Last year, the University of Rhode Island announced the establishment of a donated scholarship in honor of Rosaforte, who graduated from the URI in 1977. Rosaforte was survived by his wife Genevieve and daughters Molly and Genna and three grandchildren.
