Maya Angelou will be honored on the U.S. quarter as a part of the American Women Quarters Program. The poet laureate, artist, and activist is the first black woman featured on the quarter. The other women minted through the program are the first Cherokee Nation woman chief, the first Chinese American Hollywood star, a voting rights activist, and the first American woman in space.
