A State of Emergency has been declared for Kentucky following tonight"s tornado damage. Earlier a confirmed, deadly wedge tornado tracked through NE Arkansas, the Missouri Bootheel, NW Tennessee and West-Central Kentucky. Widespread and extreme damage has been reported in numerous cities across four states from this storm, with at least 2 fatalities already confirmed: 1 from a nursing home which was struck in Monette, Arkansas; and 1 from the Dollar General in Leachville, Arkansas, which has been destroyed. Main Street in Mayfield, Kentucky has taken a direct hit, with some buildings removed from their foundations. Earlier a confirmed destructive and significant tornado tracked through Edwardsville, Illinois and surrounding areas. A mass casualty incident has been declared where an Amazon warehouse was struck, with over 100 trapped inside and specialist rescue forces on scene. Elsewhere widespread damage has been reported. Earlier a confirmed destructive and significant tornado tracked through Defiance, Missouri and later parts of the St Louis Metro Area. One fatality and two injuries have been confirmed from a house which was levelled in Defiance. Damage elsewhere is unknown. A Moderate Risk was issued across five states today - Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky and Indiana - in what is forecast to become a significant tornado event this evening and overnight. A few strong tornadoes are likely in these states, and those in the risk areas must be watching this event closely. Key locations in the Moderate Risk area include: Memphis TN, Jonesboro AR, Bartlett TN, Cape Girardeau MO, West Memphis AR. Key locations in the Enhanced Risk area include: Indianapolis IN, Nashville TN, St Louis MO, Louisville KY, Little Rock AR. It may be December, but dangerous severe weather can happen at anytime of the year, and this outbreak is just as big a threat as any other moderate risk issued by the Storm Prediction Center.
