A Lafayette home break-in has one city court judge at the center of a racial slur claim. The Daily Advertiser reports a video recorded anonymously at the home of Judge Michelle Odinet revealed voices shouting racist slurs while commenting on the security footage. While Odinet confirmed to the media that the video is indeed from her home, she has not confirmed whether she personally said the racist slurs. Odinet said her family were the victims of an armed burglary, but a spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department said there was no indication that the suspect had a weapon. Odinet said she had taken a sedative at the time the video was made and does not remember the incident. Saying she had been traumatized by the burglary attempt, she asked for understanding, forgiveness, patience and prayers,” Some black community leaders in Lafayette have already reacted, some asking for her resignation. 59-year old Ronald Handy is charged with two counts of simple burglary. He is currently in the Lafayette parish jail on $10,000 bond.
