Painter Georges Seurat , Google Doodle celebrates French painter Georges Seurat born December 2, 1859, Paris, France died March 29, 1891, Paris painter, founder of the 19th-century French school of Neo Impressionism whose technique for portraying the play of light using tiny brushstrokes of contrasting colours became known as Pointillism. Georges Seurat began formal artistic training as a teenager and furthered his education at the prestigious fine arts institution Ãcole des Beaux-Arts in 1878. He delved into the scientific study of color theory and optical physics to develop an original style he coined âchromo-luminarism,â later known as Pointillism or Divisionism. 1884 Georges Seurat finished the painting widely considered his masterpiece at only an encapsulation of the Pointillist technique Georges Seurat spent the winter of 1885 working on the island of La Grande Jatte and the summer at Grandcamp, in Normandy. Georges Seurat participated in the 1889 Salon des Indépendants, exhibiting landscapes. Georges Seurat died April 13, 1891. Seurat left 40 smaller paintings and sketches, about 500 drawings, and several sketchbooks.
